I just found an owl pellet in the raised bed garden!
Spring is here and trilliums are emerging! Here’s a charcoal sketch I made a few years ago of trilliums, fiddleheads and a few morels hiding out surreptitiously, as morels do : )

Also a shout out to these cousins: A Gardener’s Dictionary of Plant Names by William T Stearn and Ologies and Isms by Michael Quinion
I have this book I love so much. Dictionary of word roots and combining forms by Donald J Borror. It’s wonderful. My copy is especially attractive to me - a 1960 printing in this pamphlet form with a beautiful green-colored cover with faded gold printing that I got at Powell’s books in Portland. Apparently they still print it! 10/10 recommend. I chose just a random page to show. I couldn’t choose otherwise—every page is a thriller : )
My dad lives to fight another day. He’s more comfortable today. Thank you everyone for your prayers for him. Been looking at old pictures. He was, and is, a really good father.
My brother and dad at around the same age (to be fair I don’t know what is going on with my dad’s hair in this photo, he usually had great hair)
My mom and my dad met at a track meet when they were 15. He was a sprinter, she a middle distance runner, and they would both leave everyone else in the dust. They left it all out on the track. I love these pictures.
Honey mushroom (Armillaria ostoyae) & Zeller’s bolete (Xerocomellus zelleri) in the dehydrator. Shrimp russulas, chanterelles, shaggy manes, oysters, gomphidius, princes, deer mushrooms also on the table lately. It’s a good mushroom year so far.
