I recommend this excellent essay from @egies called "What Does #Water Want?"

It's clear and provocative and wise. It has me wondering about other parts of #nature and what they "want."

I hope people in #envhist and #envhum check this out.

What does water want? Most humans seem to have forgotten | Psyche Ideas

Asking what water wants sounds a bit mystical, even radical. But it’s a practical, proven path to creating a better world

UC Berkeley leans in on land acknowledgements to recognize the campus sits on Native lands. But when it comes to returning Native remains to tribes, it has the worst track record in the nation.

A Top UC Berkeley Professor Taught With Remains That May Include Dozens of Native Americans

Despite decades of Indigenous activism and resistance, UC Berkeley has failed to return the remains of thousands of Native Americans to tribes. The university is still discovering more human remains.

Just sent off proofs for "The Biblical Priestly Tradition as Material Religion: A Comparative Ancient Mediterranean Approach," part of an attempt to theorize the most prominent biblical source as a semiotic ideology--a claim about how words and things work.

It connects a striking, often-remarked feature of the ritual--the near-total absence of prayer--with a striking but less-remarked feature of the narrative--the way divine language, and only divine language, structures reality.

Our friends and families are either on the forcefully conscripted side, victims of genocide, or genocide apologists. All of this horror happened while the world was watching without care. Not even a peep from the news about a genocidal war that killed more than 700K people. Nothing has taught me more about humans than this, especially those in the diaspora who act like they're all about "justice" in the western context but are the biggest fascists in this one.

Hundreds massacred in Ethiopia even as peace deal was being reached

Soldiers from neighboring Eritrea went house to house killing villagers in Ethiopia’s Tigray region, witnesses say.

As a childhood fan of Dilbert and long time Adams observer something I think you have to know about him is that his brain is broken in a literal, clinical way. On separate occasions he spontaneously lost the ability to speak and write/draw for years at a time, due to a mysterious psychosomatic/neurological condition.
There are lots of good scholarly books about King David but no good 10-minute explainer on how a ruthless Iron Age bandit became the paradigm for all Messiahs: https://sethlsanders.wordpress.com/2023/02/22/dispelling-the-darkness-around-the-bandit-king/
In a week where Southern California might see a snow line as low as 1,000 feet, here’s a 1949 photograph of snow on LA’s Cahuenga Pass (elevation 745 feet)

Finished writing an article on "The Ghostly World of Babylonian Scrolls" that I'd been trying to kill for months and oh my God my head hurts, maybe worth it for the first subheading, "From Evil Empire to Organ Donor"
