We are at an impasse, a sort of transitional spacetime for resisting differently. While arguments are piling up to radically intervene in how computational infrastructures are governed, developed and financed, how to refuse killer-tech when it is in our pockets? Which practices and methods do we need to abolish what we call the regime of the cloud, it we can’t afford a binary refusal?
In this session, Jara and Femke will discuss portalling as a way to work with and through contradictions, without already knowing what to do. Portals are sociotechnical passages which need to stay thick, contradictory, probably mutually exclusive and interdependent in any case.

Die #Vorratsdatenspeicherung ist ein Mittel der Massenüberwachung und eine Kampfansage an eine freiheitliche Gesellschaft!

Dass die Bundesregierung heute die anlasslose Vorratsdatenspeicherung verabschiedet hat, ist ein Desaster und ein klarer Schritt hin zum Überwachungsstaat.

Vermutlich wird das Gesetz zukünftig von Gerichten kassiert werden – aber bis dahin werden die IP-Adressen und Port-Nummern von Millionen Nutzer*innen ohne Anlass oder Verdacht auf eine Straftat gesammelt. Durch z.B. Mail- und Messenger-Dienste, die sich, neben den moralischen Aspekten, die gegen eine Vorratsdatenspeicherung sprechen, auch im Zweifel die Orga dahinter nicht leisten können, diesen Berg an Daten 3 Monate (!) lang zu speichern.

Und wofür das alles? Dafür, dass nicht nur Strafverfolgungs- und Polizeibehörden die Vorratsdaten abfragen können sollen, sondern auch „andere berechtigte Stellen“, wie Geheimdienste, Verfassungsschutz, Finanzbehörden und Zoll.

I have been warning about the term "digital sovereignty" and how it is right-wing coded and probably can't be salvaged for non-right-wing politics.

The German fascist party AfD now created a European foundation to push their fascist politics further. The name: "Sovereignty Foundation".

Even though tactically it might feel like it makes sense to use the term to get funding, you are integrating right wing politics into your thinking and speaking.

Ok, fellow hackers, I propose a pact: That new EU age verification app thingy ... do NOT help improve it.

Don't publish findings. Don't responsibly disclose insecurities. Don't facilitate them making it bulletproof.

If personal data is directly at risk, by all means, slam their asses into the ground. GDPR them into oblivion.

But on its core functionality this needs to be, to become, and to stay, the most insecure, the most easily circumventable piece of shit code on the planet.
