@scalzi People still flock to twitter to express their anger/frustration or just to look at what is happening 'now' because there is no other alternative. Those who are there are happy to fight/own other tweeters and happy with it. Also, most of media outlets create articles out of tweets and embed them. So, roots are deep. Advertisers or not, platform will stay as long as users stay there (media is happy to generate articles about what others say)
@w7voa unfortunately people conflate about problems they are facing to an anti establishment vote opinion. I just hope people realize that none of the issues (inflation, wars) go away if party changes. Other side of it is even if Biden wins these polls can be used to again pump up claims of "stolen election" 😞
And we ask ourselves why world governments failed to contain COVID

Oh, goodie, it's "Open Enrollment" - that time of year that reminds you again how even well-off people with health insurance get fucked over by the US system, with premiums going up, HSA vs FSA vs deductible + out-of-pocket max + out-of-network vs in-network and basically having to know in advance how much you'll be spending the coming year for your entire family.

It's nuts how this sort of bullshit is just accepted as normal.

He is absolutely so angry about his Wikipedia page
@toplesstopics @scalzi then there is also our changed habits of just reading headlines and making up our mind. Thanks to distrust most have on MSM, no one gives full trust to curated content of traditional newspaper. So, end up just consuming 'trending' news. Twitter is best for that and journalists are forced to insert themselves in search of eyeballs.

NPR left Twitter on April 4. “Six months later, we can see that the effects of leaving Twitter have been negligible. A memo circulated to NPR staff says traffic has dropped by only a single percentage point as a result of leaving Twitter“

Six Months Ago NPR Left Twitter. The Effects Have Been Negligible | Nieman Reports

The numbers confirm what many of us have long suspected — that Twitter wasn’t worth the effort, at least in terms of traffic.

@GregCirillo @atrupar I guess release of 6B must have had psychological effect if not the actual support. Even though timing wise it is questionable, as it takes quite a bit of prep for what happened. Of course, supplying arms and other support for Russia in Ukraine war also boosts them, not sure if anyone wants to talk about it.
@w7voa If Jordan gets the speaker position, No work will be done, it will all be confrontations. Exactly what trump wants.

Walter Isaacson's Elon Musk book exposes the *deep* roots of his right wing politics:
1. Cruel dominating father (whom he both hates and emulates)

2. Pronounced lack of empathy

3. A strict hierarchical worldview amplified by a messiah complex (Musk believes he is our savior)

Some people think Elon used to be liberal but suddenly pivoted. Nope. He sucked up to Democrats because they had power/money he needed. It was self-interest. Once he had enough power and money, his true self emerged.
