Today’s mood: sleepy medieval man wrapped up in a cloak in the snow

… but this is actually from a short film I did for Vassal LARP! Strong possibility another winter-themed video could be in the works…

@Cameronauthor Can’t wait for the new book! And welcome to this new side of social media! 😄

@WingedLion Agreed. Just disappointing in a way to think I'm going to come short nearly 50+ pages and fall from novel to novella status.

Nothing against novellas. I love them and have published a novella. But that wasn't the plan for this one and I just feel all jumbled over it.

Maybe I'll figure something out... I feel like this one is going to have one hell of a revision process.

@WingedLion There's a few scenes I definitely want to expand on in revisions, but none so majorly that it would seriously affect the word count in any way.

I've had a few extra chapter ideas on the back burner for if I feel like I need to pad it out, but I still sort of feel that they would mostly drag the pacing of the story unless I really knock them out of the park.

GAHHHH

Finished up one of the final chapters of my latest novel yesterday, and was fairly bummed out after doing a word recount to find that I was coming in much lower than expected.

I have historically always struggled with adding content to stories (especially the more "serious" the story is.) As a reader, I hate having my time wasted, and I feel the same as an author.

Going to have to figure out what to do about this...

Alternatively, the length just is what it is!

@Michaelvaliant I think this resonates with a lot of folks, and I'm among them. I was big on using GIFs to express myself and I'm certainly missing that on here. Not a deal-breaker by any means, and teams are hard at work making this site a great place to be, but it's a bummer nonetheless.
@wayfarer Glad to meet you, Lloyd. Looking forward to hearing more about your stories and sharing our writing journies together!
@orionkidder @Charleyhall 100%! I could speak in agreement of that all day long!
@Charleyhall A decent bit! Thankfully I study a lot of 14th and 15th century history, so it's well within my area of comfortable knowledge and I have plenty of sources on-hand. I think doing a time period/place I'm not familiar with would definitely be really daunting - and this still is. But it feels doable!

@Charleyhall Political intrigue and the like involved? Sounds like something I could be into!

I'm currently writing a historical fiction/horror/dark-fantasy novel. Whatever label to use, haha. It's a horror set in 15th century France!
