Profiles in Lycanthropy, day 31: Okami Otoko.
First Appearance: "Legendary Giant Beast Wolfman vs. Godzilla," incomplete film, 1983.
Transmission Vector: Unrevealed, but made gigantic by radiation.
GOODBYE EVERYBODY, I AM GOING TO SPEND THE REST OF MY TIME PERFECTING DIMENSIONAL TRAVEL SO I CAN GO TO THE WORLD WHERE THIS MOVIE GOT MADE
Profiles in Lycanthropy, day 30: Frute Brute,
First Appearance: "Frute Brute," cereal, 1974.
Transmission Vector: Unknown.
Unknown? Unknown?!?!? You mean we don't know if Frute Brute stalks the night, a savage, ravening beast, because of bite-vector contagion, an ancient family curse, a deal with Lucifer, or something else entirely? Unacceptable. Unacceptable.
Profiles in Lycanthropy, day 29: Cecily Moore.
First Appearance: "Werewolves Within," cinema, 2021.
Transmission Vector: Unknown.
The best new werewolf content in several years! Also I've just spoiled part of it so PLEASE FORGET ALL OF THIS.
Profiles in Lycanthropy, day 28: Clawdeen Wolf.
First Appearance: "Monster High," toy line, 2010.
Transmission Vector: Heredity.
Okay, for this teen-wolf, it's not a puberty metaphor, if only because everyone Clawdeen knows is another monster of some sort. Of course, all monsters can work as a symbol of teenagers, because if you didn't feel like some sort of outsider as a teen, well, you definitely weren't one of the kids I hung out with.
Profiles in Lycanthropy, day 27: Lou Garou (get it????)
First Appearance: "WolfCop," cinema, 2014.
Transmission Vector: Cultist curse.
A surprisingly watchable movie! It would have to be a surprise. Also, note that I didn't say "good."
Profiles in Lycanthropy, day 26: Samuel Haight.
First Appearance: "Valkenburg Foundation" supplement for "Werewolf: The Apocalypse," tabletop role-playing game, 1993.
Transmission Vector: Sorcery.
Look, I loved "Werewolf: The Apocalypse," though it was a guilty pleasure, because it had a lot of dumb stuff. Samuel Haight here, who was a werewolf with vampire powers and also a wizard and LOOKED LIKE THIS, was some of that stuff.
Profiles in Lycanthropy, day 25: Gabriel Van Helsing.
First Appearance: "Van Helsing," cinema, 2004.
Transmission Vector: Bite.
The hero is turned into a werewolf! But is still the hero! In a completely ridiculous movie! Usually werewolves are too hairy to get a really good look at their six-packs but NOT THIS TIME, FRIENDS
Profiles in Lycanthropy, day 24: Yugo Ogami.
First Appearance: "Bloody Roar," video game, 1997.
Transmission Vector: Heredity.
A video game where everybody is shapeshifters of various sorts, which is, of course, amazing. The iteration I played was "Bloody Roar: Primal Fury," which was presumably short for "Bloody Roar: Primal Fury: Savage Killing Rage Blade."
Profiles in Lycanthropy, day 23: Megan.
First Appearance: "Dog Soldiers," cinema, 2002.
Transmission Vector: Bite.
Megan is a cryptozoology investigator and also a werewolf which is, of course, what I want to be when I grow up.
Profiles in Lycanthropy, day 22: Howler.
First Appearance: "Drak Pack," television, 1980.
Transmission Vector: Heredity.
Listen, kids: No disrespect to, uhhh, "Drak Pack," but when we old people start telling you that our pop culture was so much better than yours, this is exactly the sort of thing that you can bring up to disprove it.
