Insightful piece on the myths associated with #GenerativeAI and #LLMs -

https://www.techpolicy.press/challenging-the-myths-of-generative-ai/?trk=feed_main-feed-card_feed-article-content

"Before creating beneficial myths to direct our use of technologies, we first should understand the current myths surrounding artificial intelligence. Myths don’t have to be cynically deployed, though they aren’t always innocent. Many seem obvious, but they continue to shape our thinking around AI. "

Challenging The Myths of Generative AI | TechPolicy.Press

Eryk Salvaggio says we must dispense with myths if we are to think more clearly about what AI actually is and does.

I had the privilege to attend the World Conference on Research Integrity in Athens this year, and have put together some thoughts for the Cancer Research UK #ResearchIntegrity blog here:

https://news.cancerresearchuk.org/2024/06/27/research-with-integrity-genai-paper-mills-and-inclusivity/

It's hard to summarise something on the scale of the #WCRI2024 but we've given it a go, with input from others active in CRUK to support research integrity, along with a sort of word map image with quotes and notes

What are the big integrity issues and what can we do about them? Andrew Porter gives us the low-down from the World Conference on Research Integrity...

Here's an #infographic to go with my #blog post for #researchers on using #GenerativeAI in a framework of good research practice and #ResearchIntegrity

The Prosper team worked with:

* 120+ postdocs in two trial cohorts, making a representative cohort
* 100+ employer partners
* 120+ PIs through the PI network
and the wider HEI sector (with 20+ partners)

The model is being rolled out nationally later this year, so all #postdocs can draw on the three aspects of Reflection, Exploration and Action - using guided tools and structures for community building and coaching

James Parry, Chief Executive, UK Research Integrity Office ( @ukrio ) brings a high-level overview of what good research culture is, and how it is influenced by individuals and yet managed by organisations, including:

• Inclusive & diverse
• Supportive & collegiate
Rigorous
• Facilitating self-reflective
• Enabling research, not restricting
• 'Setbacks, not failures'
• Respectful of disciplinary differences, all career stages,
• Safeguarding trust & confidence

Now we're hearing from Professor Melanie Welham, UKRI Executive Champion for People, Culture and Talent

There is a clear focus from government and UKRI on making the UK an attractive place for people to do research to a globally mobile workforce, and somewhere that people can grow through their whole career - which will likely involve non-linear career and non-traditional career pathways (which may have been overlooked previously)
