From time to time I still come across people believing in the "Roddenberry rules of starship design" and I cringe every time.
These were never an official thing. They were just the guidelines that Roddenberry and Probert agreed on for the design of the Enterprise-D when TNG was in pre-production. Nothing more.
Over the years the story got embellished and changed in memory, as these things often do, but just like the "every ship had its own insignia shape in TOS", it's incorrect.

I was never quite happy with the turbolift design I did for the USS Yeager, it's meant to be a compact patrol ship so the fabric walls felt too "cushy". Plus the whole lift felt disjointed to me.
I revisited it today and went with a much more utilitarian style, inspired on the Defiant.
I'm Rob, I'm a hobbyist, and I do mostly Star Trek fanart, but in the past I've also worked officially on Star Trek and Stargate.
I also write an original scifi novel with the hopes of publishing it some day.
