@monostich @ChrisMayLA6 @ilanaslightly @theatlantic @emmasarappo @bookstodon I adore Middlemarch. Every character in it is so human, and the writing has such emotion and can be so funny. (Will never forget “a great bladder for dried peas to rattle in!”as a description of Casaubon)
Feeling unwell, but popping on the share this photo taken in Avebury in December 2016. I arrived at just after 4am to take photos in the thick mist that had been forecast, and it was so atmospheric and beautiful. And cold.

Your periodic reminder:

The Devil does not need an advocate- and he ESPECIALLY does not need you, working for free.

Take that energy and be a vulnerable person's advocate.

@jnyrose @monostich @ChrisMayLA6 @ilanaslightly @bookstodon One of the best undergraduate courses I ever took was an Introduction to Philosophy where the main text was Middlemarch. Each week we had reading from a major philosopher and a portion of the novel. We used the philosophy to debate the text. That novel is deeply etched in my mind, the philosophy not so much. #books #philosophy
They should open a restaurant called ‘I don’t know you decide’

It's a profoundly internet-brained thing to accuse Kahlo of playing up certain aspects of her identity. People on her day didn't give two shits about this flagrantly communist, Brown queer woman who struggled with lifelong disabilities and pain.

This is maybe the best example I can think of of judging someone by the standards of your own time. Who Kahlo was aged well if you're somewhat lefty in 2022, but it did her no favors at the time.

Think about moderation like this.

Is your instance safe for Black women?

No? Then you have shitty moderation.

Mastodon etymologically comes from a description of the animal's breast-shaped molars, so welcome to the Boob Tooth network I guess
