The next big hurdles for mastodon are:
1. Account migration taking followers to the new instance
2. Harassment mitigation - some block list / heuristic filter subscription model?
3. Impersonation prevention

@Gargron Hey, thank you for your amazing work on Mastodon. I have set up a new instance, but no federation is happening on my instance. The social server can find my account, my server can find my profile on the social server. Nothing more. An idea?
