Baby boomer, interested in Linux, Postgresql, Oracle.

Use of a VPN is highly recommended but in the UK we have a few sites which block access. The BBC blocks even though I have an account .
I wonder if we can compile a list of the companies and try to get them to improve all our security?
As well as BBC.
We have Waterstones/Foyles/Blackwell's(same company),
Boots app also seems to hang

Can we add more?

Why have companies set up Cloudflare to block me accessing their site using a VPN.
I understand they are using Cloudflare for protection but I'm using VPN for my protection.
I am wondering how many Linux users make use of afio rather than tar?
I know afio has lots of switches and takes a little effort to set up but 2 things I do like about it are -
Each file in the archive is separate so can be recovered even if parts of the archive are damaged
And
Each file can be compressed individually or not depending on the result being smaller.

This is a question:
As I see it, money is a means of exchange, so if money is taken out of an economy, say by housing as investments aka second homes; holiday homes or AirBnb or removal to other economies, then the original system must suffer.
In the UK businesses are failing eg the hospitality sector, could this be due to money being effectively removed from the system? And if so then perhaps people need to look to schemes like the LETS groups(Canada) to start the local economy revival.
I think the Post Office/Fujitsu scandal in the UK might be a pointer to why Open source development is better:
Report on the system found that of 8 programmers, 2 were good, 2 they could live with and the rest showed a lack of simple maths and programming understanding.
I think all but the first 2 would not get anything posted to an OpenSource project.
We need a state-owned bank. That is what a courageous state would create right now. https://www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2023/07/27/we-need-a-state-owned-bank-that-is-what-a-courageous-state-would-create-right-now/. The UK's banks are failing us, but not in the way that Farage says. What we need is a state-run bank we can really trust.
The stock market is failing according to the CBI. So why don’t we just let it go?

I posted this on Twitter this morning: https://twitter.com/RichardJMurphy/status/1942861045426516103 My point is serious. The CBI is saying that the situation with regard to the UK stock exchange is getting desperate, because it is losing out to overseas markets and not attracting sufficient business. The question that needs to be asked is, why is that?...

OK, tweeps. My first steps on Mastodon are positive. The lack of promoted toots and 500 available chars make it even more appealing than Twitter. Problem: I don't know many people there (yet). #noxp

What's your handle?
