OpenMedia Survey: Tell Ottawa How to Fix the Privacy Act

Potential major DRM issue rolled out by PlayStation (and Xbox as well, allegedly). All new PSN purchases now have a 30 day validation countdown. Already investigating to find out more details.
Just got reminded that we completely forgot to celebrate "Who doesn't have internet?" Day yesterday.
It's sad to see that #AI generated pictures get the most interactions simply because there's always a fight if it's AI or not...

Google Play Integrity: what if Google dictated what software ran on your computer.

Open source implementations of attestation: what if a bunch of other people dictated what software ran on your computer.

Look, these handcuffs are permissively licensed!

No, thank you.

Ross Scott: "I don't really want to fight for this. I want people who are better than me to fight for this."

Also Ross Scott, 10 years later, speaking in front of the EU parliament:

It's clear that AI assisted coding is dividing developers (welcome to the culture wars!). I've seen a few blog posts now that talk about how some people just "love the craft", "delight in making something just right, like knitting", etc, as opposed to people who just "want to make it work". As if that explains the divide.

How about this, some people resent the notion of being a babysitter to a stochastic token machine, hastening their own cognitive decline. Some people resent paying rent to a handful of US companies, all coming directly out of the TESCREAL human extinction cult, to be able to write software. Some people resent the "worse is better" steady decline of software quality over the past two decades, now supercharged. Some people resent that the hegemonic computing ecosystem is entirely shaped by the logic of venture capital. Some people hate that the digital commons is walled off and sold back to us. Oh and I guess some people also don't like the thought of making coding several orders of magnitude more energy intensive during a climate emergency.

But sure, no, it's really because we mourn the loss of our hobby.

This is rank insanity. He needs to be removed now. Even if Trump does not carry through whatever threat he is implying here; we cannot tolerate this sort of malignant narcissist destabilizing the world.

I have called my senators. I remember when you could actually speak to a human when calling Congress; those days are over. Guess the GOP long ago decided things are rigged here enough that they don't even need to pretend to actually care.

Important XScreenSaver policy update.

25: No contributions built with, or assisted by, LLMs or any kind of "generative AI" tools will be considered. If you didn't bother writing it, I'm not going to bother reading it. XScreenSaver is art by humans for humans.
