I don't often look this serious, but signing a book contract is a serious matter. I’m incredibly excited to be writing my book with Uitgeverij Ten Have. In this collection, I describe my journeys to observatories and space research institutes, driven by a desire to better understand the meaning of gazing outward from these specific locations. I see these expeditions not only as scientific adventures but also as opportunities to place humanity and its history in a broader perspective.
I think I might have a new favorite: 'The moon is the conscience of the earth'- Kierkegaard. If we consider the earth as symbolic of human existence—the moon could represent conscience, an internal reality that we may try to suppress, but it never truly disappears.
In these dark times, asking yourself what solidarity means, looking beyond self-interest, and performing small acts of kindness is a lifeline. Especially for my young- adult students, who are under immense pressure and (many of them) feel threatened by the current political climate. #philosoohy #artresearch

The idea was quite simple: start visiting research sites, such as radio telescopes, to allow for a more poetic approach to my PhD research, learn more about the space and place-making of research, and exchange thoughts with scientists on-site.

The first visits took me to Latvia, Denmark, and the UK.

This quite simple idea is steadily taking shape into a fascinating project. I’m deeply engaged in writing and planning, working to expand and refine this research. #phiosophy #space #science

How do you compose an extraterrestrial message? How do you ensure that it comes as close as possible to the reality of what an alien message would be? In the third podcast of Scientific Imagination x A Sign in Space we go into conversation with Bettina Forget, Director of the Artist in Residence of the SETI institute.

Idk whether it is OK asking this, but I would love, love to read The Metaphysics of Quantities by J. E. Wolff. However...it.is.expensive.If anyone knows how to get access to the book - or even some chapters, I would be super grateful.
Ever heard of the book Flatland by Edwin A. Abbott? It’s a marvelous romance where fiction meets science and math. It made me wonder: What is the role of imagination in math? Therefore, I’m in search for researchers, mathematicians who are willing to be welcomed as my guest in the podcast Scientific Imagination.
I had a wonderful conversation with @Zaga_daga
this morning about responsible design and moral imagination. Stay tuned. http://Scientificimagination.org

Jelle van Dijk is an Assistant Professor in Human Centred Design at the University of Twente. 'Hopefully', Jelle states on his website, 'we’ll learn more about how to design and use technology in ways that enable people, in all their diversity of being, to be most fully themselves.'

There are quite a few projects about philosophy and space science that have either just started, or that I get to share more about in the coming months. An absolute highlight is my research period as a philosopher in residence with the ESA Advanced Concepts Team. : ) I get to dive into the most futuristic concepts and discuss them with the team from a philosophical angle. Doesn't get much better!
