Step 1 of our Italian solar and battery install completed.
3x Victron Multiplus II 48V 5000VA inverters
1x Victron SmartSolar MPPT RS 450|200 (11kW) solar charge controller
Mounted on OSB panels with Red (fire proof) plasterboard on top.
Next step: 32 EVE MB30 cells in 2 battery boxes with JK BMSes and the Victron Lynx busbars.
I got a disembarkation ticket for our boat.
Guess I’m standing by.
The joys of living rurally…
This is the second time in 5 months that a rat or mouse has chewed through a cable in our garden.
We have a network of pipes in our garden through which wires run to several sections of our yard. On the intersections of those pipes there are inspection pits, which I suspect are popular locations for rodents to visit.
Last time we had a large arcflash and a fire, this time I caught it before it became a problem.
Here in Italy, they don’t have cables with metal shielding, so I’m looking for a different solution to protect the wires. Does anyone have an idea?
Just got a text from the installer for EOLO (our new internet provider) that he couldn’t get to our house, because the farmer downstairs was watering the corn and there was a gigantic roll of watering hose in the way.
Just casual rural Italy things…
Anyway, in a vague attempt to brighten up everyone’s day, here’s a house centipede I photographed yesterday. They’re quick little things, being able to run up to 60cm a second!
You really want them around, they hunt for bad insects, like mosquitoes, cockroaches and fire ants.
They’re generally friendly (they happily run onto your hand and sit there), but piss them off and they can bite which feels about the same as a bee sting.
I’m an 8-bit Patreon supporter to the Home computer museum in Helmond (the Netherlands). I really enjoy playing around with old PC’s, so yesterday I bought an overstock extremely yellowed (almost browned) Pentium 133 from them as a base for my ultimate MS-DOS 6.2 / Early Win9x PC to play around with.
I kinda went a little overboard already, buying a IDE to SD adapter, Gotek floppy emulator, 128MB of EDO RAM, replaced the optical drive and today I went to a retro fair and bought a Soundblaster Live card.
The case itself is SO yellow, that I think it’s a mix of aging and smoke. I will probably just clean it and then rattle can spray it black, because it’s too brown to retrobright.
I’m not going too vintage though, I’ll use a VGA to HDMI converter instead of a CRT nugget.
