New blog post: “The shark that holds its breath.” Not what you may have been expecting – a fish that holds its breath for 17 minutes as it dives deep in search of its prey, but it has good reasons for doing so. https://bit.ly/45AbrDP

New blog post: “Whales: how small can you go?”
My blog is all about the ocean, so there were bound to be whales sooner or later, but why are cetaceans the size that they are?

New blog post: “Wild Isles, Wild Waters, Why Here?”
The UK is exceptional … : it is one of the world’s most nature-depleted countries.’ Why I write about UK waters and why local is important.

Today is #worldSeagrassDay. #Seagrass is a marine flowering plant with amazing biodiversity and a huge capacity to store carbon. I wrote a short series about #seagrass last year: what it is and why should we care (https://bit.ly/3P6L5ko), what the threats to it are (https://bit.ly/3z0B3Mt), and what we can do about it (https://bit.ly/3OsmZAc) Image: https://twitter.com/Shannon_Photo/ and https://twitter.com/theoceanagency/

This was my (unsuccessful) application for the Save Our Seas Foundation Ocean Storytelling Writing Grant. Many congrats to the winners, and looking forward to reading their work.

#introduction
Hi,
I'm Duncan Greenhill, the person behind Our Common Ocean.

We are all, no matter where we live, dependent on the #ocean for our well-being and survival. The aim of Our Common Ocean is to bring this realisation to a wider audience as we face the twin crises of #climateChange and #biodiversity loss. I write on a range of topics, from the #ecology of particular species and #habitats, to our relation to the ocean.

When I'm not writing I enjoy #photography and #sailing.
