I like wildlife photography and woodworking. Both I pursue in my free time. All photos I share are my own. All woodworking builds I share are my own.

Grimy Reaper.

I carved this little figurine from some pallet wood I had lying around. The inspiration hit after seeing one of @ralphruthe’s cartoons (https://troet.cafe/@ralphruthe/115467773867988131). I couldn’t resist bringing the character to life in wood.

Vintage-style salt box, made from Syzygium luehmannii (small-leaved Lilly Pilly) timber from our own backyard hedge.

We cut part of the hedge back, milled a few boards from it, and let them air-dry for about a year. Once the timber was ready, I turned one of those boards into this salt box.

A practical #woodworking project I finally finished last year.
I built a shoebox from #palletwood. The box is slim to reduce the footprint. When storms hit and the wind picks up, our shoes used to get soaked. Now they’re protected from the elements — and the area looks much tidier too.

Built a little workshop project: a dust mask storage box made from pallet wood. 🪵😷
Pull the lever underneath and the inner box drops down to reveal the mask. Keeps it clean, handy, and adds a bit of fun to the shop!

🪵 Tried some new techniques on this wooden box build!

💫 Gave wavy lamination a shot for the lid—cut strips in a wave, glued, sliced, and repeated. Saw it on YouTube and had to try. Pretty happy with the result for a first go!

🔩 Side hinges were inspired by a Pinterest post. Getting the arm lengths right was fiddly, but it worked out.

Always learning, always experimenting. ✨

🪵 Made a tiny 3D wombat from scrap timber using my bandsaw!

Couldn’t find a template, so I made my own. Asked ChatGPT for front and side views of a wombat, resized them in Affinity Photo to about 2 cm x 3 cm, then printed and glued to the wood.

Cut one side with a 3 mm blade, taped it back together, cut the other, then shaped and sanded it with a Dremel.

Pretty happy with how it turned out! 🐾

Just finished a #woodworking project — a glasses case made from reclaimed #pallet hardwood.

It began as a simple rectangle. I drilled out the centre with a Forstner bit, then shaped the exterior by hand into a rounded form. It’s not perfectly round, which gives it a bit of character I really like.

The fit is snug — no room for the glasses to wiggle. Curious to see how woodmovement might affect that over time. I may need to rework the interior if it tightens up too much. Time will tell.
