@Pepegil We only got about half a foot of snow from that last storm. This morning we're being treated to a freezing rain/snow mix. Fun!
Looking over the TOS itself, they never had a lawyer even look at this did they? They either took the TOS from some other site and lightly edited it or (ironically) had an AI chatbot draft this for them.

The TOS email says "We explicitly prohibit the scraping of user data for unauthorized purposes, e.g. archival or large language model (LLM) training. We want to make it clear that training LLMs on the data of Mastodon users on our instances, is not permitted."

Presumably this only applies to mastodon.social itself. I mean, if your post federates to Threads it's probably getting scraped for AI training over there.

@stevestreza I guess I'm one of those 38 people. On my Macs I use Cog: https://cog.losno.co/

@luis_in_brief Well, WordPress already got forked in 2018 to ClassicPress, which is community governed and funded, over the block editor being added to the core. But a open-source project as widely used as WordPress really should be community governed.

With all the drama going on at WordPress right now I keep seeing people in various places saying "It's time to fork WordPress!" seemingly oblivious to the fact that it was already forked in 2018 over the block editor, and that fork just released version 2. Also the organization behind it is 100% community funded and democratically governed.

ClassicPress | Stable. Lightweight. Instantly Familiar.

ClassicPress is a community-led open source content management system. A fork of WordPress 4.9, it retains the WordPress classic editor as the default option.

My adventures putting Linux Mint with Budgie Desktop on an old 2010 MacBook Pro 13" someone gave me and getting everything to work and look nice. It's a dual-boot setup because I didn't want to remove macOS from it in case installing Linux went sideways. I've booted lots of Intel Macs from Linux Live discs/drives but this was my first time actually installing Linux to Mac hardware which wasn't without issues.

@geoffduncan I thought my locked display plist would carry over but I had to redo it from scratch. Not for point updates, only major version upgrades. But it's possible they changed something in it between 14.3 and 14.4.

If you search for "Allow accessories to connect" you won't find it, you have to go to System Settings -> Privacy & Security directly. At least according to someone further down in the comments on that MacRumors thread.

@geoffduncan I'm not on Sonoma but my Apple Silicon Mini only keeps my dual monitor setup right after creating Display Overrides and editing and locking my displays plist. If you don't know how to do that manually try something like the "Better Display" app.

As for the other problems, you can't roll back a point update, so it's either a full downgrade or wait and hope 14.5 fixes it. Or try this temporary workaround first if you haven't already done so: https://www.macrumors.com/2024/03/13/macos-sonoma-14-4-usb-hub-issues-reported/

@MichaelPorter The "Accessibility" pref pane is actually named "UniversalAccessPref.prefPane" - at least up to Monterey it is, I'm not running Ventura yet.
