Just got one of those fitness tracker watches. Was interested in how it counts my steps and why, during setup, it needed to know what hand i wear it on.
Had an annoying fly while I was sitting at my computer at , so i waved it away with my watch hand. The step count jumped up quite a bit.
Does that mean if I used my watch hand while having a wank fest I could easily hit 10,000 steps in a day?

I will still take my chances on the road, riding in my designated lane. I won't compete with walkers, leashes, and skate boarders
As for those aggressive drivers you mention, you can't legislate against stupidity. I was hit in broad daylight by a car driver that decided the stop sign at the intersection did not apply to them. Luckily my injuries were not too severe and I healed from my surgeries quick enough I was back to riding after about 6 weeks of healing up.

Since I do not live there, I can't speak to the legality, but from a safety point, It is not advisable to ride your bike on the sidewalk. Sidewalks to too crowded with pedestrians and there are no established traffic flow rules . Coasting just a bit to your parking spot may be OK.
Way back in the 1880's the LAW, now known as the Bike League, was involved with passing some of the first laws banning bicycles from the sidewalk in Providence, RI based in this fact.
