As bioimaging has moved from an observational method to a quantitative one, additional considerations are needed to carry out this work in a rigorous and reproducible manner. This Essay provides a navigational guide for biologists new to quantitative bioimaging, with recommendations and pointers to open source resources.

At my Uni at least, ECRs have plenty of alt-ac career talks and advice, but very few talks from academics about how they achieved independence. OK, they interact with research-focussed academics every day, but they don’t get honest accounts like this very often.
