If I'm understanding this right, #RonDesantis got absolutely played by #Disney as a result of him not knowing, understanding, or caring what a #specialdistrict is or does. Delicious. 🧵

So...in a fit of culture-war grandstanding, #DeSantis lashed out at Disney last year for (finally) publicly opposing his anti-gay legislation. His brilliant plan was to dissolve the #ReedyCreekTaxDistrict encompassing #DisneyWorld--because why should Disney get a "special" district?! He rammed it through the legislature, at which point several folks noted that this would result in Orange and Osceola county taxpayers being on the hook for $100M in annual expenses for things like utilities and road maintenance plus $1B in bond debt--and was also likely unconstitutional.

DeSantis' only option was to recreate the function of the district under a new name. The only question was how much control Disney would be willing to give up, because it could likely fight a takeover in court.
