"Basically, we are watching the famous 'wood wide web' in action."
"We now see the forest not as a mere collection of individuals, but as an orchestra of phase-correlated plants.
Professor Gagliano said the findings support calls for the preservation of wise old trees."
Treebeard approves.
"They discovered a series of underwater mountains near Samoa that were much older than expected... By analyzing the age & chemical makeup of ancient rock samples...the researchers concluded that these mountains were part of a much older segment of the Louisville volcanic track, which Finlayson compared to a volcano’s “footprints.” As the Earth’s crust (tectonic plates) moves over hotspots, they form these volcanic tracks."
A new study traces a 120-million-year-old “super-eruption” to its source, offering new insights into Earth’s com
Is there anything AI *can't* break?
"It's sometimes confusing when we pretend that there's a scientific conversation happening, but some of the people in the conversation have a stake in a company that's potentially worth $50 billion."
You don't say.
Very cool.

From the comments:
"This is more than 25%. The last real budget was FY24, $24.875B. In 2025 buying power, that was $26.8B (inflation has been high). The proposed FY26 budget of $18.8B is a 29% reduction to a number that was already down a bunch since 2020."
Well, China and Russia are happy, I guess. Space is all theirs now. Pretty sure whatever over-inflated junk muskrat wants to make will not compete.

Remember in Phillip K Dick's book "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" (aka Blade Runner) that the Voight-Kampff test questions and the fascination with robotic animals was b/c most of the wildlife on earth was extinct?
Is that the vibe we're starting to see now with food crops? Are the images of foods subliminal talismans to ward off hunger?
Just asking questions.

Fruit and vegetables motifs are all over decor these days. Design experts say the farmstand vibe reflects many people's craving for a simpler, healthier lifestyle. The produce motifs intersect with spikes in interest around gardening, wellness and antiques. And nostalgia. One revived theme is items illustrated with cabbages and lettuces, common motifs decades and centuries ago. This winter’s interior design, décor and lifestyles shows in Paris and Frankfurt, Germany, sometimes felt more like vibrant produce markets than trade fairs. Some booths were full of planters showing 3D grapes and watermelons. There were mirrors encircled in images of peapods or pineapples, and tomato-covered cups and tableware. Lamp shades, tablecloths and cushions burst with juicy prints.
Who remembers the 2008 financial crisis? Do you know what's careening toward us like an out of control freight train? A poly-crisis recession that will make 2008 look like a cake walk.
The university system as we know it will not survive the federal budget cuts, the predatory student loan system, and the forced teaching of false white nationalist christo fascist dogma.
