#introduction I'm Paul Ford, I've been on the Internet a long time—but nowhere near the longest—and I used to blog at https://ftrain.com. I am on Twitter/Medium/etc at @ftrain. I write a lot about technology—right now I'm a columnist for Wired, and I accidentally started https://tilde.club although many other nice people run it now, so joining the tilde.zone Mastodon instance made the most sense for me.
Aside from all that I co-ran a software agency for about 7 years with my friend Rich, and now I'm building a small startup at https://aboard.io, also with Rich.
I live in Brooklyn with my spouse Maureen, two young kids, and two cats. New York City has been home for more than 25 years now.
Something that needs more attention on #academic and #science Mastodon: UAW Academic Workers have announced a multi-unit statewide #strike against the #UniversityofCalifornia for unlawful conduct, beginning November 14th. This might be the largest academic worker strike in US history.
Please support my fellow postdocs, grad students, and researchers in whatever way you can as we fight for fair labor rights: https://www.fairucnow.org/support/.
#introduction - Hi everyone, I'm a PhD candidate in history and a union member. Apologies in advance for the excessive hashtags, but I #amwriting a dissertation about the history of capitalism and environmental inequalities in the computer industry. I've done research on the history of #anarchism, #abolition, #leftist movements, and #environmentalism.
I usually post about #labor. Also a fan of #starwars, #scifi, and #shitposts.#histodons @histodons
All three books I've co-authored are freely available online for non-commercial use:
