Retired academic (French professor) living in Pittsburgh PA with my wonderful husband. Photo is me at Mono Lake in the Eastern Sierras, Northern California. I love the outdoors, animals, astronomy, aviation, and lots of gay stuff, among other things.

At our street’s annual block party. Our neighbors are generally really nice. It’s fun getting together. We have neighborhood parties 3 or 4 times a year. A chili cookoff in the fall, progressive dinner around Christmas (you go to different houses for appetizers, main course, and desserts). It’s fun. Lots of new neighbors recently. Now I’m trying to remember their names.

One of Pittsburgh’s many charms is that in the spring and summer everything is really green. Fall colors are usually good, too. This is from a ginkgo tree in the back yard.
I love Ginko trees but boy the female ones can smell when they fruit. Virginia has quite a lot of them. I love the leaf shape too.
@MikePgh I moved to Pittsburgh 11 years ago, from Portland. The yard at my house was a sad mess, and I hired a landscape firm to help. The guy commented, "You must miss the lush green from Oregon." I laughed!
I lived in Seattle for 5 years a long time ago and still miss it daily. It’s a different kind of green. I miss the mountains and the water all around. The darkness in winter eventually got to me. Pittsburgh’s winters aren’t too bad, and the change in spring is always very welcome. I hope you like Pittsburgh. It’s far from perfect, but it has its charms. We live in Churchill in a really nice neighborhood. It’s affordable, which really helps.
