We show that the synthetic spinels ZnFe2O4 (#Franklinite) and ZnAl2O4 (#Gahnite) form a solid solution series with properties depending on the Fe/Al ratio in the material, e.g. pronounced variation in total conductivity and magnetic susceptibility. Also, we observed reversible zinc ion and proton (de)insertion, making the material a possible candidate AS active Material in zinc #batteries.
