Why are we still here? Just to suffer?

Something I got paid to do this morning.

The country's going to shit and a lot of people will suffer very soon, but for the time being I'm glad I can at least get a little joy out of my job.

I was tired of just putting a bunch of logos up for a featured article image. So I took a photo of some toys instead.

Anyway, the DoJ says they might make Google sell Android and Chrome. I really, really doubt that'll happen, but the fact that it's now a legitimate possibility is wild. https://www.pcworld.com/article/2483886/us-govt-may-force-google-to-sell-off-chrome-android-or-both.html

US govt. may force Google to break up and sell off Chrome or Android

Department of Justice lawyers have put forth possible actions for Google's antitrust violation conviction, including splitting the company apart.

Every tech site is covering the big Amazon sale. Lots of other sites, too. I wrote up deals just like everyone else.

Web writers HAVE to do this. The affiliate revenue from these big sales keeps the lights on. And there are so many deal posts that it's basically impossible for us to use and recommend each one, even if we cover that niche.

With that in mind, here are six deals on stuff I've bought for myself and really like.

Six Prime Day deals on stuff I own, use, and love

These are six of the things I really like and use pretty much every day. They're all on sale at Amazon. Go get 'em.

I ditched Chrome for Vivaldi, on desktop and mobile. Yeah, I should have done this a long time ago.

I got sick of Chrome's BS and switched to Vivaldi. Here's what happened

After more than a decade I've broken my Google browser habit, on Windows and mobile.

Google's carbon emissions surge nearly 50% due to AI energy demand

The increase marks a setback in Google's goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2030.

Can you leave your Steam account in a will? According to many state laws, yes!

...but Steam can blow it up anyway. And you'd have to get through an arbitration clause to fight that.

Can you bequeath your Steam account? Maybe, but there's a catch

Steam says you can't leave your account in your will. US law says maybe you can. But even if it's technically legal, there's still a problem.

Review Geek, a site I spent years building up with some of my favorite coworkers, is gone in a poof of Valnet arrogance. More for my own documentation than anything else, here are three of my roundups for the best low-power PC games of 2018, 2019, and 2020.

The Best PC Games of 2018 (That Don’t Need a Graphics Card)

So you’d like to play some awesome PC games, but you’re stuck on your dusty laptop with integrated graphics. It just can’t handle the latest GPU-melting AAA masterpieces, but that’s no problem—we have you covered.

Finally got out on the river for the first time this year. My new Crescent Primo has been itching for a run, did 20 miles in 5 hours. Having real foot support (instead of the little stairs molded into the body) made a huge difference.

I also like how high it sits. It's a little tippy for a sit-on-top, but it slides over everything in just a couple of inches of water.
