Instagram collects scary amounts of your data 🫣 Mastodon on the other hand - None! ✅

What do we learn? There are great services available that do not abuse your data.

Give your friend the nudge they need - they deserve better than Meta's constant surveillance 👉🏼 https://tuta.com/blog/how-to-delete-an-instagram-account

Today we are calling on institutions around the world to take control of their #DigitalSovereignty, including their social accounts. Governments should communicate directly with their citizens on open platforms, not through the mouthpiece of a corporation.

The world needs social sovereignty

The world needs to log off corporate-owned, centrally-controlled social media platforms and log on to a better way of being online. The world needs an open social web through the fediverse and Mastodon.

Relatable? 🤣

#linux

Support for Windows 10 is ending next month, making it a great time to switch to Linux! There's no need to throw away your old computer. If you primarily use your machine for social media, shopping, or online banking, you can save money and help the environment.

Which distribution would you recommend? Mint or Ubuntu?

PS: For older computers, a lighter weight distribution might be a better choice so ch as Linux Mint XFCE or Lubuntu.

If you feel that #FDroid downloads are slow, just press ❎ to cancel the download then press Install/Update again so it picks up some other mirror.

There's no unified "F-Droid server" but several and a dozen or more mirrors.

Each time you try again it will use a different one. Hopefully the next one will have better bandwidth.

/PS: We've seen the reports, we will look into it.

Meet the people

One of the most exciting things about CoMaps is the amazing community behind it. We want to shine a spotlight on some of the incredible people who are already contributing to the project.

· gedankenstuecke: helps with website, operates German community room and decision-making structure.
· Flummic: Designed the CoMaps logo.
· metehan: Runs Weblate, and operator of the Turkish room.
· AlexeyNaumenko: a recruiter, published an article about CoMaps.

A new release is available!

Features include: a link to Panoramax street photos (where photos available), improved contour lines, color improvements for many map features, and many more.

⚠️ If you see a post or DM saying "your account is currently suspended for verification purposes", do NOT click on the link. It is a scam.

Fediverse servers do not ask people to verify their identity. There is an optional self-verification system, but that's just for those who want to use it. No one is ever asked to do it.

If you are in ANY doubt about ANY official-looking message, contact your own server's admin directly using their public email address on your server's website's "About" page.

Introducing the CoMaps Logo!

We're proud to reveal the logo for CoMaps — designed and chosen by the community.

From maps to code to design, CoMaps is 100% community-powered — and this logo is no different. It’s a symbol of what we’re building together: free, open, and offline map navigation.

The winning logo was created by @Flummic. The initial round had 21 logos submitted, 6 finalists, followed by a collaborative iteration process.

Thank you to everyone who shaped this milestone.
