Dear Followers,
I'm in need of a new home for this account since this instance is decommissioning from #firefish.
#Sharkey doesn't really have much options in terms of open sign-up general instances yet, and I don't want to port to Mastodon as I already have an separate personal account there.
If anyone has any recommendations on a welcoming, safe space general instance that's firefish or the newer sharkey, I'm open to suggestions.

The environmentalists hyperfocus on aviation is not helpful in the grand scheme of things aviation is a tiny polluter compared to many other sectors. By focusing so much on it we are letting Industry continue to destroy out planet.

Stop worrying about the planes taking off at the airport, and put more effort into the fact people drive there.

Campaign for better public transport. Campaign for better cycle infrastructure.

Tanzania's National Park Organisation confirmed the accidents...

The first incident was from Zanzibar to Kikoboga with 30 passengers & 3 crew onboard. While on approach to the airport, the crew reported problems with the landing gear. Upon landing the main landing gear collapsed, causing the plane to veer off the runway.

The 2nd incident happened 6 hrs later. The flight was operating from Kikoboga to Zanzibar to pick up the passengers from the earlier accident. While accelerating for takeoff, the aircraft suffered a nose gear collapse, causing it to veer off the runway & collide with a building.

Cockpit voice recordings get erased after some close calls. The FAA will try to fix that

Federal officials say they will give investigators a better tool for understanding accidents and close calls between planes. The Federal Aviation Administration said Thursday it will propose that new planes have cockpit voice recorders that keep 25 hours of sound, up from the current two hours. The idea is to prevent valuable information from being lost. In one case, investigators couldn't hear what American Airlines pilots were doing before they crossed a runway right in front of a Delta jet taking off from JFK Airport in New York. That's because the American Airlines pilots took off for London, and whatever they said to each other during the close call was erased two hours later.
