ps. yesterday i found out that the huntington beach library will NOT be privatized at this time, as its only bidder has pulled out. i don't know why they did this, but it's wonderful news. we need to keep the libraries public and accessible for all!

i wrote a short (850-word) essay about organizing my very first protest, despite being kind of a cowardly activist.
there's kind of an amazing postscript to this story, which i'll share in the comments (read it after you read the essay, okay?)
Confronted with censorship, queer graphic novelist advocates for freedom of expression, visibility for comics and artistic rights. Their efforts have made them a significant figure in the fight against book banning, inspiring others as well.
comics genius and wonderful person leela corman will be in the bay area this week, all the way from rhode island! i'll be in conversation with her about her gorgeous, haunting new graphic novel, VICTORY PARADE, at the cartoon art museum on monday 6/17 at 6pm.
