@kfarinsky @rbreich If we want to just directly transfer wealth rich to poor, we should create a new tax, not Trojan horse it into social security. That’s the kind of crap (in reverse) Republicans pull that we always hate.

Changing the cap without changing benefits would alter SS from social insurance to direct wealth redistribution. Which, ok but it would fundamentally change what ss is.
@rbreich Because they are only receiving bevefuts on the 160k they are paying social security on.
Social security is supposed to be your own wages set aside and paid back to you at retirement age. It was never meant to be financed by people who would never receive benefits on their payments.
I’m all for raising taxes, but this would fundamentally change what social security is.
