MEMORISE’s Italian Journey: Introducing Ferramonti 3D – MEMORISE

We embarked on a journey to the #FerramontiDiTarsia memorial, a poignant reminder of history. Using cutting-edge tech, we captured the site's essence from a unique perspective. With #droneFootage, we're reconstructing the space in 3D, preserving its legacy for generations to come.

This week, we presented our publication "A Survey on Storytelling Techniques for Heritage on Nazi Persecution" at the #IVAPP2024 conference in Rome. Congratulations to our Ph.D. students Camilla and Niek for their presentation and insights into using visual elements to deepen the understanding of historical happenings and narrate the past.

The paper was a collaboration between the University of Southern Denmark, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and the Bergen-Belsen Memorial.

MEMORISE #you – MEMORISE

In the face of increasing misinformation, it is important to protect the integrity of historical sources, safeguard memorial sites and reflect on how to engage with the history of Nazi persecution in thoughtful and responsible ways. We have addressed these challenges in our conceptual & ethical considerations for visualising heritage on Nazi persecution: https://memorise.sdu.dk/guidelines/

Among the prevailing #historicalSources, #diaries allow us to rediscover the personal stories of the victims.

Therefore, in the #MEMORISE Project, we are developing a #comparativeReaderTool, so that users can #explore and #juxtapose prisoners' biographical data and stories.

#otd 79 years ago, #Auschwitz was #liberated. On this occasion, we #commemorate the victims of #NaziPersecution with the #InternationalHolocaustRemembranceDay.

In the concentration camp #BergenBelsen, the Nazis tried to erase the traces of their crimes by destroying the camp’s documentation. Of the more than 110,000 prisoners, at least 52,000 died. The names and fates of many of these prisoners are still unknown today.

The museum's exhibition gallery tells the story of Belzec in detail (1), next to it is a dark and empty room for contemplation, which seems to be about the same size as the exhibition gallery (2).
