Any lasting tips for this out there?

Oh, my, these Olivetti Valentine typewriters…
@Luke I’ve always wanted to get one of those!
@jasonsantamaria You can now at retrospekt!
@Luke That may be a good price for being in such good shape... but also more than I want to spend on something I will probably let gather dust after a few weeks 😂

@jasonsantamaria true.

…until power and internet go down and we start sending thoughtful letters to eachother just to check in …delivered via horseback?
I suppose that’s an entirely different set of concerns. 😬

@Luke @jasonsantamaria So you’re saying I need a typewriter *and* a horse.
@bw @Luke I like that you went straight past pen and pencil 😂
@jasonsantamaria @bw Ha! That’s true, too!
Let’s remember that pen and pencil are chaotic and unreliable now that we’ve used computer keyboards for fifty years.
@Luke @bw So true! I mean, my illegible handwriting is probably the biggest problem anyway :D
@jasonsantamaria @bw it’s not like when I was a drafting school. That much is for true.
@jasonsantamaria @bw perhaps now is a good time to make my own handwriting typeface. 🧐

@jasonsantamaria @Luke @bw I've been taking longhand notes for some months. It was painful at first. But I retain more ideas, easily over double. Something in the inconvenience of it?

I'm eying that typewriter. Bet it's inconvenient AF, I must have it!

@theo @Luke @bw Nice! I take longhand notes too for the same reasons and love it. Though I really want to take some time out to resuscitate my handwriting.
@jasonsantamaria @Luke @bw Mine is so bad, it's comical.
@theo @jasonsantamaria @bw same-o. Resuscitate is the correct word, for sure.

@theo @jasonsantamaria @bw oh, boy. Someone’s goin’ all in!
Shift Happens: A book about keyboards

Shift Happens tells the story of keyboards like no book ever before, covering 150 years from the early typewriters to the pixellated keyboards in our pockets.

@theo @jasonsantamaria @bw @mwichary I fought so hard to not let myself buy this. I did back it though. 🙌❤️
@bw @jasonsantamaria ha! Say! You could even bring this manual typewriter *with* you… on the horse!

@jasonsantamaria @Luke But your fingers would get SO BUFF from the typing.

Also, if you have kids you can blow their minds at how much strength a person used to need to press those keys.

@AnthonyBaker @jasonsantamaria that is a really great point. Nowadays keyboard enthusers talk about micronometric pressure used on current key switches, meanwhile
