Ethics Case Study Overview: Political Disinformation and Facebook (A focus on the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election). – Communication Ethics

@SophiaSalamone @jjsylvia I believe this is a great topic to focus on! This opens up possibilities to focus on teens and adults as well.
@jjsylvia I would like to focus on the 2016 election. That chapter would be very helpful!
@SophiaSalamone Hello Sophia! Above is what I am considering for my ethical case study. I look forward to your feedback and to what you are going to write about as well.
@jjsylvia, Above is the topic I am considering to explore for the ethical case study
I'm looking into exploring political disinformation on social media platforms. I want to focus on platforms like Facebook. I think about "The Facebook Dilemma" documentary and the issues that arose during the 2016 election. With this topic, I can explore how people on these platforms use their freedom of speech in misleading ways. I plan to analyze the role that algorithms play in amplifying disinformation and the ethical implications of content moderation, especially when it comes to politics.
@jjsylvia Oh wow! That was a good one!
The future of the #fediverse is a curious one for me. It's great to see how different this is from the mainstream platforms. It does raise ethical concerns and issues. This platform will undoubtedly grow. I am curious how Mastodon will handle things as it grows. The decentralized nature of it has surprised me, but I still question whether this is the future. Can it be? With a little more evolution and effort, anything is possible.
It's still early, but I feel a sense of #community building here. I saw a post about men's #mentalhealth and it spoke to me. It has been the only post to receive boosts and a favorite, so far. This is where a decentralized structure truly shines! It's nice to hear that there are men out there encouraging other men. I'm all for it!
I'm taking an #ethics class, so let's get #ethical real quick. The decentralized aspect can be a two-way street (more like a double-edged sword). The freedom of expression and speech is excellent. It is, but what happens when it isn't? Fewer restrictions on controversial topics is a good example. It's good to talk about them, but how much "communication" actually happens? We often see it happen on servers with a ton of restrictions. Imagine with fewer restrictions. What happens then?
