Ethics Case Study Overview: Political Disinformation and Facebook (A focus on the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election). – Communication Ethics

@SophiaSalamone Hello Sophia! Above is what I am considering for my ethical case study. I look forward to your feedback and to what you are going to write about as well.
@jjsylvia, Above is the topic I am considering to explore for the ethical case study
I'm looking into exploring political disinformation on social media platforms. I want to focus on platforms like Facebook. I think about "The Facebook Dilemma" documentary and the issues that arose during the 2016 election. With this topic, I can explore how people on these platforms use their freedom of speech in misleading ways. I plan to analyze the role that algorithms play in amplifying disinformation and the ethical implications of content moderation, especially when it comes to politics.
The future of the #fediverse is a curious one for me. It's great to see how different this is from the mainstream platforms. It does raise ethical concerns and issues. This platform will undoubtedly grow. I am curious how Mastodon will handle things as it grows. The decentralized nature of it has surprised me, but I still question whether this is the future. Can it be? With a little more evolution and effort, anything is possible.
It's still early, but I feel a sense of #community building here. I saw a post about men's #mentalhealth and it spoke to me. It has been the only post to receive boosts and a favorite, so far. This is where a decentralized structure truly shines! It's nice to hear that there are men out there encouraging other men. I'm all for it!
I'm taking an #ethics class, so let's get #ethical real quick. The decentralized aspect can be a two-way street (more like a double-edged sword). The freedom of expression and speech is excellent. It is, but what happens when it isn't? Fewer restrictions on controversial topics is a good example. It's good to talk about them, but how much "communication" actually happens? We often see it happen on servers with a ton of restrictions. Imagine with fewer restrictions. What happens then?
Privacy, privacy #privacy. Hasn't this been a topic of discussion on social media for some time now? Being new to Mastodon, it's great that the decentralized nature gives us (the users) more control over our data. This is what stands out to me the most (and that I haven't seen a single #keyboardwarrior yet... it's still early). As a platform, it's refreshing to know that I'm not being sold to advertisers like I am in other places. I won't say their names...#Meta whoops #fediverse all day
Here is a con (This is just my humble opinion), sometimes having a "looser" policy can lead to potential issues. Toxicity can emerge from it. I always say, everything that is made for good somehow ends up in the wrong hands for bad. How would one be able to handle and address this? Will it matter?
Everything has its pros and cons, and Mastodon doesn't fall too far behind (I prefer it over mainstream platforms). Here is a pro. Being able to see how each server has its own set of rules is great! Being able to want to see posts that align with one's values and interests speaks volumes! Does anyone else agree with me on this?
