@mollyconger Tusky, might be some newer ones out I haven't tried though. The official app is hot garbage, just don't use that and you're probably okay
@jk this is very fun in enterprise IT contexts where there's like a very detailed list of the way it's supposed to behave, written down in requirements that everybody signed in advance, and yet there's still ferocious argument about whether functionality X is hopelessly broken
@seltzer_queen everybody cool just calls them posts

In essence, my perspective as a long-term user (five years this month) is that there never has been an established single practice for how and what to CW.

There are tons of different communities on here and all of them have different approaches to this, with a certain overlap (basically, CW anything that could be disturbing, retraumatising or that people may have other reasons to not want to engage with - for example if you're posting about discrimination against a group like PoC, trans folks or disabled people, and you're not a part of that group yourself).

So while there are some intuitive guidelines, and discussing best practice is always a good thing, it's simply bad optics when individuals put themselves out there pretending that their peer group's approach was the universal one that was generally accepted on the Fedi until two weeks ago.

There is no single definition of what constitutes "sensitive content". I do however believe that we can continue to make this place better by showing a healthy amount of respect for other people's boundaries.

@biasbe @elduderino Tusky is pretty decent for an app imho
@eldiste I lost about 3 accounts on different servers in the aftermath
I remember the first time people started leaving Twitter for Mastodon en masse and a bunch of people immediately bullied Wil Wheaton off for being an insufferable nerd wherever he goes
@elduderino @biasbe @nutsling email really is the best comparison there. Like: you can have an address on Gmail, and an address on Protonmail, and they can send messages to each other while also having different policies for spam handling and so on
@gbuell no it's generally not as exposed on Masto, as I understand it's kind of an anti-clout measure. Etiquette here is generally to boost liberally if you like a post and not really care about the numbers
@firescotch he's quite clearly reading posts on here so I assume that we are already actively bullying him
