1/ I’m an Israeli historian. My community is still too silent about the horrible war in Gaza. Over 8 months I’ve closely followed the war, reading >1000 articles and viewing >1000 videos/images of the war from all sides. My summary conclusions & full report are in the 🧵:

A sperm #whale swam straight towards a diver, its mouth wide open and filled with various debris. As the diver carefully neared, the whale kept its mouth open, allowing her to remove the tangled mess bit by bit.
Afterward, the whale lingered in the area, staying near the surface with the divers as if expressing gratitude. Before diving back into the depths, it gave the divers an unforgettable photoshoot and a memory that will last a lifetime. #whales #amazingnature #nature
What often gets me about the fedi is that there are enough resources to fund work in this space.
We know this because we see white creators hit and exceed crowdfunding goals regularly.
So, the fedi has the same problem most other platforms have.
It just doesn't like to give resources to creators that aren't white.
The fedi seems to pride itself on being ‘different’ from centralized platforms, but this is one aspect that shows those values have just been brought here.
So...
This is your #WokeReminder that after the people of Gaza are wiped out, and the Palestinians remaining in the West Bank are forced to leave their homes for 'camps' or 'detention' or whatever Izzy wants to use sanitized language to describe, there will be a MASSIVE investigation.
The UN, Amnesty, whoever. There *will be* an investigation and testimony gathered from witnesses, whistleblowers, survivors. And from the dead themselves.
And the West will clutch its pearls and pretend to be horrified at the mass graves, the piled up bodies, the murdered children. Like any of this is new.
