I don't know what I'm talking about.

If you find me where I live in the UK (NW England), I may well be ranting about software development, sports-ball (ITFC, cricket, cycling, "Go Bears!" etc). I'm probably harmless but you might want to walk away slowly backwards just in case.

Quote of the day, from a friend who founded a software startup: "You can’t use an LLM in any context where being wrong is a problem."
Many years ago, when I had far fewer followers, I asked the universe for help identifying a panel I'd clipped from a comic during our first trip to the UK in 1977, but had no luck. Being a romantic, I carried it in my wallet until it was in tatters, and would love to replace it. Can you ID the comic?

@sus Guess I have a new maxim.

Never ascribe to stupidity or malice what could be attributed to profit.

What would happen if the richest 10% reduced their CO2 emissions to the EU average (which BTW is a nice standard of living).
Answer, there would be a 35% decrease in global CO2 emissions.
So, all would be fixed, if we could limit the excesses of the top 10%.
Switching server software, so a #reintroduction:
I'm Alex (they/them) living in Canada. I've been around the fediverse for some time, but have not been very active until now, when I've also decided to experiment with self-hosting! As a blind person #accessibility means a lot to me, and I also enjoy science fiction and fantasy (although I haven't read as much recently as I'd like).

Three stories about local businesses who are great members of my east side of Toronto community!

This morning I sat having a coffee at Oliver Coffee Bar, and Lorenzo of Lorenzo’s Pizzeria walked in with *an entire bucket* of mozzarella to give to James, the proprietor. (The cheese was no longer right for his pizzas, he explained, but was still perfect for salads and sandwiches and more.)

As I marveled at this, James brought over a free latte, explaining he’d made the wrong drink and didn’t want it to go to waste.

Then at dinner at Il Fornello, our wonderful server monitored table allergies like a hawk, and when we refused dessert after our delicious meal, she brought over an allergy-friendly dessert to take home for our kid, with specific warming instructions (delivered to him, not the grownups!).

Just a wonderful day in our great city where we almost all take great care of each other. Love this city.

How are transgender parents currently registered on their children’s birth certificates in the UK?

We are supporting the TransReg study, conducted by researchers at the University of Zurich and KU Leuven, to gather anonymous data on the birth registration process for trans parents.

The goal is to highlight injustices and provide the evidence needed to push for legal reform and policy changes that actually protect our families.

Hey folks, is anyone else here at Resisting Big Tech Empires in London today? 👾

At Southbank Uni, with @pluralistic speaking this afternoon 😎

I have a proposal to prevent this.

1. The most senior UK google exec takes the ponts and fines for any offence.
2. The fines are proportional to income.
3.once banned from driving, the next most senior exec has to take the points.

Expecting driverless taxis to respect bike lanes “too high a bar” – because customers want to be dropped off in them, autonomous vehicle firm Waymo tells cyclists

Waymo, the autonomous driving tech firm whose so-called ‘robo-taxis’ are now roaming the streets of London, has told cycling campaigners that expecting their driverless cars to respect cycle lanes is “too high a bar” – because their customers want to be dropped off in them.According to the Highway Code, motorists “must not drive or park ...
