Attorneys say SFPD may have violated the law during ICE arrest at SFO

Attorneys say the San Francisco Police Department may have crossed a legal line when officers surrounded federal immigration agents during an arrest at San Francisco International Airport, raising questions about whether the department violated local sanctuary laws.

@georgetakei I wish there had been more detail in the article, rather than it simply stating the obvious. The “explanation” we expected is only a short statement in one social media post by Governor Newsom.

There may be a precise strategy that very few people have seen, and if that strategy can be described then it should become a point of reference in every news report.

People should also be reading more historical accounts, for context. What is happening now isn’t new.

Video of ICE arrest at San Francisco draws Democrats' anger

Video footage of federal officers detaining a crying woman at San Francisco International Airport is drawing outrage. Airport officials say Sunday's incident was not related to the Trump administration's deployment of Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers to help with long lines at airports during a partial government shutdown. The Department of Homeland Security says officers arrested two people with a final order of removal dating to 2019. Democrats in city and state politics are denouncing the actions of the agents.

Trump says he's sending federal immigration agents to airports on Monday amid DHS shutdown

President Donald Trump on Saturday said he would send ICE agents to airports around the U.S. on Monday amid an ongoing standoff between Senate Republicans and Democrats over funding for the Department of Homeland Security."If the Democrats do not allow for Just and Proper Security at our Airports, and elsewhere throughout our Country, ICE will do the job far better than ever done before!" he wrote in one of several posts on Truth Social, adding later, "I look forward to moving ICE in on Monday, and have already told them to, 'GET READY.'"The move came hours after the president first threatened to move ICE agents to airports, writing in a post on Truth Social earlier Saturday, "If the Radical Left Democrats don’t immediately sign an agreement to let our Country, in particular, our Airports, be FREE and SAFE again, I will move our brilliant and patriotic ICE Agents to the Airports where they will do Security like no one has ever seen before."In the first post, Trump also said ICE agents’ work in airports would include “the immediate arrest of all Illegal Immigrants who have come into our Country.”His comments come as Senate Republicans on Saturday blocked a Democratic effort to pass a stand-alone bill to fund TSA in a 41-49 vote and a day after Senate Democrats voted down Republicans’ efforts to pass a bill to fully fund DHS, which has been partially shut down since mid-February

Winds, blizzards and triple-digit heat put over half of the US in the path of extreme weather

Storms pummel parts of US with snow, high winds and rain

A severe weather front sweeping across much of the eastern half of the U.S. has dumped heavy snow around the Upper Midwest, spawned thunderstorms in the South and is threatening several mid-Atlantic states with heavy rain and possible tornadoes. The storm chain brought blizzard conditions on Sunday to the Upper Midwest, with dangerous winds elsewhere and the threat of severe storms heading east. Heavy snow piled up in portions of Minnesota and Wisconsin. The National Weather Service is warning about the threat of severe thunderstorms, damaging winds and likely tornadoes along the East Coast on Monday, particularly from Maryland to South Carolina.

Documents required by GOP's voting bill can be difficult and costly to get

Congressional Republicans are pushing voting legislation that's backed by President Donald Trump and would require voters to produce documentary proof of citizenship in order to register for federal elections. Obtaining those records and paying for them may not be as easy as the bill’s promoters make it sound. There's a range of hurdles, including the time and money involved in getting birth certificates or passports. A University of Maryland study estimates that 21.3 million Americans who are eligible to vote don’t have documents to prove their citizenship or don't have easy access to them. The House-passed legislation is scheduled to come up next week in the Senate.
