@richrollgardener It’s louffas, different varieties of tomatoes (most small ones), cucumbers, pumpkins and habaneros. It’s too cold to put them outside, but in a month they’ll be outside 😍
@Fritillaria Yeah, I had to, couldn’t bike or go by bus because they cancel all the buses when there’s bad weather here. And it takes the workers all day to clear the snow because it snows so much…
Walking to work because all the local buses stopped working in this snowstorm…7 kilometers is a lot when you’re fat 😭
Well.. having a cold and have list of things to do at the same time is not ideal. But I’ll make do, somehow.

Firestorm BooksWe're four days into the most significant natural disaster in the recorded history of our region. Our community is experiencing an ongoing crisis created by infrastructural collapse and the profound failure of capitalism to value and sustain life. No state or federal aid has yet reached Asheville, but all around us we're seeing regular people acting autonomously to address immediate needs and meet one another with care. We hope to write soon about the beautiful and resourceful things we've witnessed.
Our co-op is physically intact and our members are accounted for. Although we've fared better than many, we're experiencing this crisis physically and emotionally. We're exhausted, largely without power, water, or internet. Cell service is poor, and when we are able to connect, the volume of information is overwhelming. Right now our priority is supporting and facilitating mutual aid efforts and we ask for your patience as we cannot keep up with emails, texts, and DMs.
Firestorm will continue to act as an in-person resource and information hub over the coming days, with staffing from noon to 4pm. A daily meeting at 2pm serves as a space for neighbors to get verified updates and coordinate mutual aid efforts. Other hubs have arisen organically in other parts of town and we're doing our best to share and connect resources.

Mutual Aid Disaster Relief
Recent events have shown that the effects of climate change are not distant fears, but current realities. From historic flooding to hurricanes, earthquakes, fires, pandemics, and more, we need each other more than we ever have before. Mutual Aid Disaster Relief listens to affected community members and responds with supplies, medics, work crews, and amplifying the grassroots community-led initiatives that blossom following disasters. We understand that disaster relief is effective and efficient only when it involves listening, working with, and responding to impacted communities, especially those most marginalized. Our grassroots, solidarity-based, autonomously organized, and decentralized approach is proven to respond to survivors’ self-determined needs in a way that eliminates bureaucracy and red tape while giving survivors opportunities to take part in a communal recovery. With climate change, and the extreme weather that accompanies it, disasters are increasing in intensity and frequency. We understand that our work has only just begun. We have established a permanent network of volunteers, supplies, and coordination based on the principles of solidarity and mutual aid and we aim to ramp up our work in impacted communities. We also hope to increase our capacity to respond wherever the next disaster strikes. But we can’t do this without your help.
