Reuse and recycle, technology being 500 years slower than promised and the terrible rise of politics of deliberate ignorance

First time using a magsafe tripod to hold my mobile while reading a whole book. Being able to use the Bluetooth clicker, supposedly for photos but can also turn the virtual page, is a game changer!

Lying in bed with the page held up while you stay flat, is such a neat low energy way to read. Feels sinful just clicking a button under the duvet!

The app is ReadEra (free) and I use a Samsung Galaxy with a #magsafe compatible case to take advantage of the accessories.

I grew up on a small farm. For a few years we had 30 chickens, a dozen ducks and a pair of geese. Eggs informally sold to locals until the council made it a crime.

Anyway just realized the egg I cooked this morning was TWO MONTHS past the best before date, and was of course absolutely fine.

Why do supermarkets do this? In my whole life I've only encountered 1 rotten egg, and that was on the farm, probably because it had been hidden for weeks in the chicken coop.

Walking around a much overlooked 1,000 year old town looking at 2,000 year old artefacts, but it was this breathtakingly gloomy statue of #PaddingtonBear that you can't unsee!

Does anyone else #repair their failing umbrellas? Am I obsessive for doing it...?

I think this one was inherited from someone else. Probably well over 15 years old. A little bit of stitching stops it falling apart.

New #BBC production of #LordoftheFlies is a difficult watch. Excellent casting as the actors are exactly the same as the characters. The post war setting follows the original.

This frame chosen for episode 2 highlights the challenge for the viewer. The boys are preteen down to preschool and with prejudice, bullying and also care and shame.

The production avoids sexualized imagery, but intimacy of the camera is why it's more disturbing than memory of the original text.

#Confession

I stole this mug from the #Microsoft campus in #Seattle in the 1990s.

No questions.

Booked a return train in a month's time #London to #Newcastle. I was routinely taking #Lumo as it was significantly cheaper, but #LNER has added 5 car "short" trains terminating at Newcastle, so some are cheaper than Lumo!

1. LNER isn't as packed as Lumo.
2. LNER had easy refunds. Last time Lumo owed me a full refund, it took 4 emails and 3 phonecalls! Delay Repay my butt.
3. More stops, so more empty seats.
4. Optional seat choice in app from nice layout graphic. Table seats!

Return was £42!

Our Christmas decorations were extremely modest this year. Anyone beat 6 inch Christmas trees?

They were a nice momento from Germany.

Almost time to stand in the garden to celebrate the New Year's ringing of the church bell 🔔

How fantastic is this postage stamp?

I can't help think the envelope will outclass the card!

Enjoying s5e2 of #StrangerThings and love the glancing reference to "A Wrinkle in Time"

Turns out my collection of well thumbed 1960s #scifi paperbacks I collected as a young teenager are worth ... bugger all. Oh well, at least I understand the reference and the writer's in-joke!
