OK so Mastodon with its many different instances I think is kind of a compromise between the old forum-based online communities and the new social network system where everything is in one place?

It feels too much like a Have a Cake and Eat It Too thing, idk.

Right now, the multiinstance thing is confusing. It'll be better if you can make one account and "join" different instances instead of needing multiple accounts
