I own a tiny little coffee roastery in South Yorkshire, UK. Also a newly graduated environmental scientist interested in plants and insects. Owned by many cats. More questions than answers, always exploring. Occasionally post insects without CW so don't follow if you're bug averse!

Tried painting a sloth without it turning into green mush. Layered strange shadow colors and fought for fur texture at this size. Honestly kinda proud of how soft it turned out. #sciart #watercolor

Hi!

Jennifer Hamilton here, formerly of med-mastodon.com. That server shut down suddenly. If you followed me before for my toots about #vaccines, #PublicHealth, #FamilyMedicine, my gripes about #ElectronicMedicalRecords #EMR, or even just a few #caturday pictures and chats about bicycling, I'm on mstdn.science now.

The old #MedMastodon went down suddenly in the last week of December 2025, and I don't have a list of my old followers. Please boost this so they can find me!

Need #Linux Help!

For a layperson comfortable enough with tech (& grew up typing prompts into DOS), but with ZERO experience using Linux - what are the basics I need to know in order to switch?

I'm especially interested in:

• How to keep using all/most of my current #Windows-based software (an expensive investment - many of which are no longer in production)

• How to interface with peripherals (3D printers, Synology, Blu-Ray drives, etc)

• What you wish you knew before you made the switch

My interest in plant pigments started with the tomatoes in my garden. There didn't seem to be any one place organizing all the genetics related to color mutations, even though there was a great deal of research, so I decided to make one.

To help visualize everything, I built a schematic diagram of the carotenoid pathway with the various metabolites highlighted to indicate their colors.

@kim Basically my main goal for this year is to own my content and place it on my own websites and share it rather than just post to other people's platforms. I've been meaning to do it for a while but I have some time on my hands right now so making it happen. I've had a domain and wordpress blog specifically for my more nature/wildlife gardening content for months and now setting it up so I'll have a fedi account up and running for that soon. I'll keep this account as a backup
Finished my paper airplane FPP #quilt recently and am already well into the next project. Except for the backing which I don't like enough to show it's all thrifted and salvaged fabric. Each plane is ditch stitched on my machine and then the "speed lines" are big hand stitching. #sewing #quilting
Just spent ages trying to figure out why my latest @kim post hadn't federated only to discover I wrote it on the wrong blog!
