Eu acho estranha a insistência q o Mastodon "não é pra substituir o Twitter"
Ele foi desenvolvido inteiramente buscando imitar funcionalidades do twitter (mas decentralizado).
A maioria das funções tem um paralelo. Não é idêntico, claro, mas é intencionalmente similar. Até a interface padrão é uma imitação do Tweetdeck (q é um front-end alternativo oficial do Twitter)
Eu acho inclusive que é bom ser mais confortável pra quem tá "migrando" do Twitter. Quanto mais similar, mais fácil.

Something I discovered the other day on accident is in Mastodon and derivative software, if you are sending someone a DM, and you spontaneously tag someone in the middle of the message, *that person now has read access to the DM in which they're mentioned*. This is a neat feature if you're using it on purpose but could be awkward if you're just trying to link an account and suddenly that account can see you talking about them…!
Eugen Rochko199,430 is the number of new users across different Mastodon servers since October 27, along with 437 new servers. This bring last day's total to 608,837 active users, which is without precedent the highest it's ever been for Mastodon and the fediverse.
I don't think Mastodon or the fediverse has ever received this much attention before. It's a great opportunity for people to finally see that social media can be done differently, that it can be a protocol not under control of any single company.
