I blog about movies and stuff.

I really liked the first Ready or Not, and I really liked the second one, too. Bigger cast and more action, but still just as much fun, and I can imagine them making for a great double feature once the second one is out on video and streaming.

Ready or Not 2: Here I Come  (2026) Rated R for strong bloody violence, gore, pervasive language and brief drug use

The Spooky Picture Show podcast screened Bordello of Blood at Cinema Salem this past Saturday, and I think I may have finally found my local substitute for Popcorn Frights back in Fort Lauderdale. Don't get me wrong, the movie itself was trash, but the discussion before and after it was very fun, especially when they started getting into the movie's wild production.

@randomuser How much Sudafed will three megabytes of hot RAM get me?

It's been too long since I wrote one of these...

Send Help proves two things: a) Sam Raimi's still got it as a horror filmmaker, and b) casting directors have been sleeping on Rachel McAdams and Dylan O'Brien for years. This was an incredibly fun survival thriller that just goes wild and has an absolute blast, and I was more than happy to go along for the ride. Definitely check it out.

Predator: Badlands leaves Dan Trachtenberg three-for-three with great Predator movies. The two leads were amazing, the action kicked ass, it had some great worldbuilding and subtext without it overpowering the movie, and it was amusing seeing how much gore they managed to get past the MPAA by pulling the old "they're robots and aliens, it doesn't count!" trick.

Predator: Badlands  (2025) Rated PG-13 for sequences of strong sci-fi violence

The fourth and final [REC] film was the perfect place to have ended this series. It feels like they were running out of ideas, cribbing notes from other zombie movies, and losing their grasp on what made this series unique, but it still hit the spot as just a fun zombie flick that felt like the ending of a Resident Evil game in the best way.

  [REC] 4: Apocalypse  ( [REC] 4: Apocalipsis ) (2014) Rated R for strong horror violence/gore, and language

The third [REC] movie unfortunately doesn't live up to the standard of the first two. It has its moments and it's not an altogether bad movie, but it tries to go a more fun and "awesome" tone and never really pulls it off. I only recommend it for series completionists and diehard zombie fans.

Review: [REC] 3: Génesis (2011)

[REC] 3:  Génesis  (2011) Rated R for strong bloody horror violence and some language

[REC] is one of the all-time great modern zombie movies and found footage movies, and while the sequel is held back from greatness by one glaring problem, it's still a solid companion to the first that elevates it in my eyes. They're both intense, claustrophobic zombie flicks that make full use of the found footage style and put some creative twists on zombie lore, and I'm kicking myself for not having checked them out sooner.

Review Double Feature: [REC] (2007) and [REC] 2 (2009)

For the first "real" horror movies of this spooky season, I decided to dig back a bit to my teenage years for a film that I'd seen hyped up ...

The Long Walk is a movie I've pitched to my coworkers as "The Hunger Games if it were written by Stephen King," and I don't think that's too far off. There's more to it than that, but overall, it's simply an intense, brutal dystopian survival thriller with a lot on its mind, and a movie I firmly recommend.

The Long Walk  (2025) Rated R for strong bloody violence, grisly images, suicide, pervasive language, and sexual references

Until Dawn was a movie I'm glad I waited for Netflix to watch, but I enjoyed anyway in spite of itself. The story was garbage and had next to nothing to do with the game, but it was still a fun horror thrill ride that, oddly enough, managed to capture the feeling of actually PLAYING a game surprisingly well.
