I came across a comic book artist on Instagram (pacorodriguez_art), who I’d never heard of, who draws Disney comics. Really good stuff, all drawn the traditional way on paper. Turns out he’s been drawing Donald Duck for over 30 years for comics published in Scandinavia, Netherlands, and Germany. There’s a recent interview where he discusses, among other things, what isn’t allowed by Disney (no socialism, no toilets): https://arsnotoria.com/2025/09/01/a-conversation-with-paco-rodriguez/ #comicbooks #DonaldDuck #illustration

I got a little obsessed with old typewriters, and now, unfortunately, I notice them on Facebook marketplace.
Martin probably figured, “Why fix something that isn’t broken?” Old tech is remarkably resilient. I have a Royal Quiet De Luxe typewriter (a model used by Hemingway, Anne Sexton, Rachel Carson, and Stephen King) and it still works 80 years after my grandmother took delivery of it. It could probably use a new ribbon though. 14/14 #typewriters
Today, there are many choices of software for writing. Word, Scrivener, Focuswriter, Final Draft, Obsidian, etc. Even so, there are diehards who won’t give up their pens, pencils, typewriters, or old school software. George R. R. Martin, for instance, has stuck with using WordStar 4.0 on MS-DOS. https://medium.com/@estavillo/the-writing-systems-of-prolific-authors-changing-your-writing-system-may-boost-your-creativity-9ae2aa551565 #GeorgeRRMartin #WordStar #WritingSoftware 13/14
The late 80s marked the end of the typewriter era for most writers. Margaret Atwood: “Along came the personal computer, and for a few years after 1989, I spent hours with a hairpin trying to pry stuck floppy disks out of my first Mac. My manual typewriters were stored in closets, with the fond regret bestowed on old prom photos and shells plucked from forgotten beaches.” https://thewalrus.ca/how-margaret-atwood-learned-to-type/. #MargaretAtwood #Macintosh #Writing 12/14
