alt-text for profile: I'm wearing a grey cap, outdoor shirt, and my usual weirdly goofy smile. A peaceful lake behind me.

@grantpotter I'd never argue with Brian Eno, but I've only recently found out about the trend in easy listening music called 'lo-fi' which means they've added the pops and scratches back IN, like when I didn't clean the vinyl properly.

As someone who was pretty good about looking after my records, I admit I find it a bit difficult to listen to! OR on second reading, maybe I'm agreeing with Eno?

@chendricks Also, I'm at the point in my life now where I use "back in the day" un-ironically, it seems...
@chendricks They're a long-time Vancouver band with a mostly local, Gen-X following, they played all the popular Vancouver venues back in the day :)

“The officer then said that even a swift return of America to its former role won’t matter.

Because “we will never fucking trust you again.”

The Americans at the table seemed somewhat startled by the heat of that pronouncement. I agreed with it entirely. So, it seemed to me, did most of the non-Americans.

… it was still being talked about the next day. “Thank God,” one allied official said to me. “Someone had to tell them.””

actually, welcome to the polycrisis.

So the hottest years ever recorded are officially:

2023
2024
2025

and all were over 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial target.
Welcome to overshoot.

@GrumpusNation I’ll admit it’s certainly woken me up - I’m finding excellent Canadian alternatives in the grocery store for instance that I just wasn’t paying attention to before.
We've been in a trading relationship with the US for a long time, and while we've often had disagreements, we know that tariffs come and go.
I'm sure the 51st State/annexation rhetoric has changed Canadian buying habits for the long run.
