Pentagon bars journalists from press office in latest move restricting access

The Defense Department has declared its press office a classified space, barring journalists from entry. It was yet another move restricting journalists' access to Pentagon officials. Acting Pentagon press secretary Joel Valdez confirmed the move on X, stating it was due to speechwriters handling classified material in the space. Valdez emphasized there was "nothing controversial" about the decision. This change comes amid rising tensions between the U.S. media and the second Trump administration. Last October, many reporters turned in access badges over new restrictions. The New York Times has sued the Defense Department twice, arguing these restrictions violate the First Amendment.

Putin warned that if Armenia adopts EU standards, Russia will end economic integration with Yerevan & require Armenians to get permits to work in Russia — drawing an explicit comparison to Ukraine, whose EU bid he said once triggered a "crisis." https://meduza.io/en/feature/2026/06/02/putin-issues-ukrainian-scenario-warning-as-russia-ramps-up-pressure-on-armenia-before-elections
Putin issues ‘Ukrainian scenario’ warning as Russia ramps up pressure on Armenia before elections

Armenia’s parliamentary elections are scheduled for this Sunday, June 7. Russia has repeatedly criticized incumbent Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan for what the Kremlin views as Yerevan’s pro-Western turn. Armenia has deepened its cooperation with the European Union and the United States since Russia declined to come to its defense in the war with Azerbaijan. Moscow is now demanding that a pro-Russian businessman, Samvel Karapetyan, who is under house arrest, be allowed to run in the elections. Kremlin-linked bot networks have launched a sprawling disinformation campaign targeting Armenia and Pashinyan. According to Reuters, the Kremlin discussed a plan to send 100,000 Armenians living in Russia to Yerevan to vote against Pashinyan. Here is a brief look at the other ways Russia has been stepping up pressure on Armenia ahead of the vote.

Shorter NYT: Trump will drop the Terrorist Slush Fund unless shitty coverage like this story gives him cover to resume it. www.nytimes.com/live/2026/06...

When Pete Hegseth systematically targets Blacks and women, don't we call that racism and misogyny? When did "anti-diversity" become an acceptable euphemism?

Hegseth Strikes Female and Black Navy Officers From Promotion List

The defense secretary’s decision to block the officers’ promotions appears driven by his anti-diversity stance rather than based on merit.

Le Guin only considered two groups of people: the ones who walk away from Omelas, and the ones who stay.

But the real world tells us that there's a third group, who think if they have it so good by torturing just the one child, imagine how awesome the economy would be if they could use five, ten, perhaps even hundreds of children. Perhaps they'd sell courses on how to childmaxx your own, private Omelas.

Joyful recovery stories emerge as Congo battles Ebola outbreak

Congolese authorities say there are now at least 282 confirmed cases of Ebola in its ongoing outbreak. Patients who recovered from the disease also spoke of their “indescribable” in interviews with The Associated Press. The WHO has said all five recoveries are health workers – four nurses and a laboratory worker. Health workers are among the most affected in the outbreak. In a statement late Sunday, Congo's Ministry of Health said adding that contact tracing remains a challenge with a coverage rate of only 45%. Congo has reported over 1,000 suspected cases with the Bundibugyo virus, the current species of Ebola, which has no approved treatment or vaccine.

Androcentric bias: Defaulting to the male experience as standard for what is normal, thus placing women as the "other".
