A few months ago, our Subaru's battery stopped keeping a charge. Like we had to jump-start it after two days of non-use. Turned out that the 2g modem stopped being able to connect so it was constantly looking for a signal, depleting the battery. Took out the fuse, problem solved. But now the bluetooth connection won't work, which isn't that big of a deal (or too expensive after paying the mechanic to figure it out). Point being that telematics have costs beyond just invading privacy.

@alice I work in computer security and do a lot of work on automotive stuff.

People ask me what I think of self-driving cars.

I tell them I get to work on a bicycle. The smartest thing on it is the USB charge controller for my headlight and if it makes a funny noise or starts smoking I can yank it off the handlebars and yeet it somewhere far away from me.

🔹Por Paridad de Poder Adquisitivo, la métrica que mide el peso económico real ajustado al costo de vida, China es la mayor economía del mundo con $43,5 billones, casi 12 billones por encima de EE.UU.

🔸Asia concentra el 49% del PBI mundial. Europa, que durante dos siglos dominó la economía global, representa el 21%. América del Norte, el 18%. El Sur Global, históricamente relegado, empieza a aparecer en el mapa con peso propio.

🔹Un dato que desafía el relato occidental: Rusia ocupa el cuarto lugar con $7,3 billones, por encima de Japón y Alemania. Desde 2022, bajo el régimen de sanciones más severo de la historia moderna, la economía rusa no colapsó, se reorganizó. Reorientó su comercio hacia Asia, profundizó vínculos con el Sur Global y creció. Las sanciones fallaron en su objetivo central.

🔸China superó a EE.UU. en este indicador en 2014. Once años después, Trump viaja a Pekín con los CEOs de Apple, Tesla, Goldman Sachs y Boeing a pedir acceso al mercado chino. Los números explican el viaje mejor que cualquier declaración diplomática.
