When Trump and his crime family comes for your data, American tech won't save you. They'll hand it over because they have no choice. European and Canadian alternatives aren't perfect, but at least they aren't under Trump's thumb.

Here's my post-Trump tech stack.

How I’m Building a Trump-Proof Tech Stack Without Big Tech

The world can no longer trust American tech. If that sounds dramatic, take a step back and consider the facts. The United States is a nation in the thrall of authoritarianism, owned and operated almost completely by a far-right doomsday cult intent on betraying every alliance, every contract, every promise

I'm going to bed now, but:

hopelessness is not a virtue. self-serving pity parties get us nowhere. both are obstacles to actually taking care of each other.

scared is fine. you can be scared.

but stand the fuck up.

Let's stop using the term, "ai art," and start saying, "ai content."

They want us to call our work, "content," and they want us to call their junk, "art." No.

Got tired of having this conversation over and over again so I just spent way too long making this:

Rust 1.75.0 is now available! 🦀✨

Traits now support `async fn` and `-> impl Trait` (with some limitations), the compiler got faster, `version =` in Cargo.toml is now optional, and many small functions have been stabilized!

Check out the announcement:

«I have for most of my life – because I was sort of born into it – run Apple. Now recently, meaning within the last five years, I've become more and more and more depressed [...] And I've come, within the last month or two, to say: even though I've invested a zillion years in Apple, I'm throwing it away, and I'm going to Linux. To Raspbian, in particular».

In my talks and discussions about the role of Open Source maintainers, I usually list a number of reasons why maintainers might quit or otherwise reduce their involvement.

"The Russian army destroyed my house" hasn't been on that list yet 😐 🇺🇦

With the OpenAI clownshow, there's been renewed media attention on the xrisk/"AI safety"/doomer nonsense. Personally, I've had a fresh wave of reporters asking me naive questions (as well as some contacts from old hands who are on top of how to handle ultra-rich man-children with god complexes). 🧵1/
@sko @lattera Block cloning does indeed default to disabled in 14.0, but the data corruption issue is not due to block cloning and may well predate OpenZFS. I just now sent mail to the freebsd-stable list with details: https://lists.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-stable/2023-November/001726.html
Potential ZFS data corruption issue
