Never, ever, cut a deal with a dragon, for you are crunchy and good with ketchup.

for those tracking John Carmack's descent into right wing total moral disorientation, he's now at "Palmer Luckey should buy Wired and do to it what Elon Musk did to Twitter".
he's full fash at this point. totally gonna deliver AGI by 2030 though.
increasingly disgusting that he named his shitass company after Commander Keen, a joyful little video game from before he became a millionaire and was empowered to become his worst self.

It’s been a weird couple days; I keep running into this talking point that “journalists won’t use Mastodon unless we incentivize engagement farming”.

Meanwhile I’m having a *great* experience here, because I use it to— I dunno— actually talk to people and form relationships?

I reject the premise that mastodon isn’t useful for reporters. I think it’s more accurate that modern news orgs use social media in purely extractive ways.

You might get more reporters that way, but you won’t like them.

Watching Fedi and the world react to the US president go absolutely unhinged in public, threatening war crimes as his cognitive grip disintegrates before our eyes, watching the horror and the outrage…there is something I want to tell you from Minneapolis.

And I’m not sure how, and I’m not sure if I can, but I want to try. People are always thanking us and calling us heroes and asking us for some kind of…something, anything we can offer in the face of the authoritarian march, and well, here it is, here is something, if I can figure out how to say it.

My middle finger salutes you
My hometown used to be this quiet, unremarkable, middle sized city. Now there are so many immigrants, mostly from Ukraine and South America, that you can spot signs in four languages.
@stfn pretty cool that the kids who grow up there can learn four languages at the same time surrounded by translations. Maybe as they speak, as in many mixed households, they will switch words fluidly and create a fifth language.
If you wear glasses full time, I’m curious…how many times per week do you end up (intentionally or accidentally) sleeping in them all night?
WTF? Never.

There used to be a time when building out a botnet required *some* work – writing exploits, taking over devices, obscuring the purpose of the executable, etc.

Not any more!

Instead of "malware", call it an "AI agent" and people will just happily install it on their devices with full root privileges!
