Mostly I'm just used to the old way of doing things with .deb files.

Beyond that I guess I've come to accept Flatpak since it seems to have become the more common cross distro packaging system.

I've used many distros over the decades and was quite happy to have Ubuntu be a major one for a long time. But the Snaps are annoying.

@calvicii Depending on the client you can do group voice/video chats.

FB is the worst but I can't figure out how to pull people away from it. There is nothing Fediverse that covers the "I just want to see what my friends are up to" itch that FB used to be.

I would like to say it could be Friendica, but there are few servers and they seem to perform poorly.

Its really too bad but it seems like Friendica isn't coded efficiently.

To a large degree Mastodon is working the same way, but the focus on friends first make it a better entry to the Fediverse for those coming from Facebook.

Really wish it performed better. Perhaps people smarter than me will get around to a complete rewrite. Probably in Rust.

I'll be on the lookout for a class action lawsuit notice.

@itsfoss I'm looking to degoogle more than ever.

Why Discord became the default platform for so many communities is beyond me. Really hope this is a wake up call for people to find better platforms and stop relying on single provider Big Tech honeypots.

@arstechnica once the US has the production moved, what incentive do they have to protect Taiwan?

Seems like a pretty good reason not to play ball.

[Blog] Hey! Remember a month ago I mentioned there was a scam BitCoin wallet in the Snap Store. There's another one. This time I took it apart to see how it works.

Edit: It's worse - they published ten scam apps under different wallet brand names. :(

Guess Who's Back? Exodus Scam BitCoin Wallet Snap!

Previously… Back in February, I blogged about a series of scam Bitcoin wallet apps that were published in the Canonical Snap store, including one which netted a scammer $490K of some poor rube’s coin. The snap was eventually removed, and some threads were started over on the Snapcraft forum Groundhog Day Nothing has changed it seems, because once again, ANOTHER TEN scam BitCoin wallet apps have been published in the Snap Store today.
